FREE Day at the Museum

Maria Kristina • September 23, 2018

Did you know we had a National Museum Day?

Museum Day is an annual celebration of boundless curiosity hosted by Smithsonian magazine. Participating museums and cultural institutions across the country provided free entry to anyone presenting a Museum Day ticket. The Museum Day ticket provided free admission for two people so I chose to visit the San Antonio Museum of Art where they say to "Come Curious, Leave Inspired."

I must say that I didn't expect this museum to be so interesting that I would want to go back two more times and really absolve myself. I brought my children with me and we all had such a great time exploring and learning all of the different art cultures that are housed at SAMA. The San Antonio Museum of Art has one of the most extensive collections of ancient Egyptian, Greek, Roman, and Asian art. SAMA also has a serious collection of Latin American Art, from the Ancient Americas that I wasn't expecting.

If your looking for a new adventure that will take you all over the world I highly suggest visiting the San Antonio Museum of Art. This Museum isn't just for the adults it is definitely for the family to enjoy and learn together.

Greek:

As soon as you enter the greek exhibit you immediately notice how elegant all of the statues are. The detail on every piece even when it wasn't complete had it's own unique character. Be aware that most of these statues might be indecent for some children under 10 years as majority of the statues are exposing their private parts.

Egyptian:

The Ancient Egyptian room was amazing. Up close the Mummy's Sarcophagus really feels like it served it's true purpose as a protective box that was creatively made. The decorations and art on the sarcophagus was also designed using mirror symmetry which I thought was cool.

China:

This room had various Asian art cultures reflecting on the society in which it was produced.
Full of color and meaningful stories on every piece of art in the room.
